Fresh Maine Dayboat Scallops, 1 lb
- Unit price
- /per
Note: This year the scallops along the coast are smaller than usual: plan on 20 per pound (in the past it was closer to 15 per pound).
Also note: As Maine's scallop fishery winds down, we can not guarantee availability after March 5. If we're unable to obtain fresh scallops for the March 12 or March 19 delivery, we will be in touch to offer alternatives/refunds/postponements.
Includes: Maine Dayboat Scallops, shipped FRESH within 48 hours of harvest (almost always within 24 hours, actually, but we like to underpromise and overdeliver) in one pound increments. *NOTE: now offering volume discounts, see bottom for information.
Serving Size: 2-4 servings per pound, depending on how you prepare them. As a component of a dish (like scallops over pasta), plan on 3-4 servings per pound. As the main component of a dish, plan on 2-3 servings per pound.
This product is why this company exists.
Our founder Togue is on a mission to show you what scallops are SUPPOSED to taste like. No scallop on the market can match the flavor of a true Maine Dayboat Scallop. And while our frozen scallops are absolutely wonderful (since they never touch fresh water, they freeze better than any other scallops), there's just something special about eating a scallop that was relaxing in Maine's cold, clear waters just 24 hours previously.
The first thing you'll notice is the pure, sweet smell of the sea. The texture, sweetness and brine level will vary by location, but ALL Maine scallops are delicious and ours are guaranteed to be the best you can get.
These are "boat run" which means they come right off the boat with only minimal sorting, so the size will vary. Plan on roughly 20 to a pound.
Each package is labeled with the name of the fisherman who caught them, the name of his boat, the area they were harvested and the date of harvest, all sealed in oxygen-permeable cryovac bags for optimum quality.
This season we're offering discounts: the more you order, the more you save. Shelf life will be approximately 5 days from receipt, so you should plan on freezing them or eating them in that time.
We recommend you purchase fresh items together (fresh scallops, live oysters, smoked seafood) and frozen items together, as mixing the two will diminish quality.
And remember: at checkout you'll select the shipping week, not the shipping day. We generally ship via Federal Express Overnight on Wednesday, meaning you'll receive your scallops on Thursday.
Other: We can guarantee something else that's very important: unlike 95% of US sea scallops, our scallops will NEVER touch fresh water. The texture of these scallops is completely different from what you're used to: when you pop these scallops in your mouth you'll experience a silky, buttery feel and toothsome texture that's hard to describe, but once you've had it you can't go back to scallops from traditional channels.
*Volume discounts in place beginning November 2025. In the past, all scallops were one price per pound, regardless of how many pounds were ordered. But the high cost of shipping meant it would actually cost us money to send a single pound of scallops. This season, we're incentivizing the purchase of more pounds, which works better for us, better for you, and better for the environment. And since they're all in one pound bags, it's easy to go in with friends, family or coworkers to place a bulk order.

Scallop quality is unsurpassed. Texture, taste and presentation are perfect. My young granddaughters loved them! They called them Steak of the Sea! And I appreciated the personal note from Togue, helping us all to connect to the fishermen and women who put it on our table.
Best tasting scallops!
Every year late February to early March I send day boat scallops to friends and relatives across the continental USA - California, Washington (state), Oregon, New Mexico, Michigan, Florida, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont. These scallops are a highlight of the winter season for my friends and relatives. It is a near messianic moment for them and they think that I have truly hung the moon. Though not cheap, the scallops are well worth it for a once a year treat, are a delight and help to soften the grey of late winter. Thank you, Togue and company, for making true day boat scallops and fresh Maine seafood available for shipping across the country. It is joy to be able to send them to special people who live away.
My scallops were delicious. Next order I'll buy more These are some...lightly seared in butter/olive oil.
We splurge on the never frozen, fresh, and tasty dayboat scallops from time to time. I feel so grateful that we are able to do this. I'm also grateful that the Downeast Dayboat business exists with their highest standards and attention to detail . I never order scallops from restaurants anymore; they just can't measure up. These are consistently yumalicious; I think about them and I begin to drool. Thank you to all who contribute to this party in my mouth, wow!!! It's the second best thing beside going directly to Maine.
