COMING SOON! Check back on Small Business Saturday to purchase!

On Saturday, January 17 at 8 PM EST, Togue will lead a guided tasting of 5 different  scallop varietals from along Maine's coast.  Participants will complete a live online survey to describe the unique taste profiles of each varietal, designed by scientists at Oregon State University. This survey will use cutting edge software to help identify the unique characteristics of each varietal, paving the way for a "Maine Scallop Merroir Map".

Includes: This one of a kind experience will include

  • Individual packages of scallops from at least 5 different areas along Maine's coast. Each package will contain 4 scallops: enough for up to 4 people to participate.
  • A link to the live Zoom tasting,
  • A recording of the presentation/tasting.
  • Any follow-up materials, such as a link to the journal article, when published.
  • An instructional email preceding the event to be sure participants are prepared for this trailblazing event.
  • Nationwide shipping included!

Togue's Tips: This is an amazing opportunity to experience a delicious one of a kind tasting while helping advance culinary science!

You may have seen oyster tasting wheels before, such as this one.  But this type of tasting wheel does not yet exist for scallops, since most Americans have only ever tasted generic waterlogged scallops from the offshore fishery.  This project will help dispel the myth that "a scallop is a scallop" by elucidating the unique flavors produced by different regions along Maine's long, craggy coast.

The scallops provided will be enough for up to four people to participate (additional survey links can be provided upon request).  Where else can you (and up to three friends!) MAKE CULINARY HISTORY for just $195?

For those of you who are really into data, check out this article in which this software was used to help describe pear attributes.  Togue is SO EXCITED to be part of this amazing project: won't you join her?
